In the last three years, the Salvadoran food and beverage exports registered an exceptional dynamism partly due to the development of the nostalgic market in the United States, but also as a result of an aggressive national strategy of free trade and betting on the diversification of products and markets.

The figures speak for themselves: The food sector represents today more than 35% of the nontraditional product exports and grow to an annual average rate close to 18%. Since 2006, 316 food products were exported to more than 75 destinies around the world, being the main markets the United States, Central America and Europe.

The success of the sector has demanded on behalf of the exporting companies, considerable advances in technological and managerial fields that have contributed to raise the competitiveness level of the industry within the Central American region. The exports of products like tuna, maize flours, bakery and juices have been fundamentally valuable to position the Salvadoran food industry in high grow marketplaces.
